Porter Valley PCN Covid-19 Vaccination Update

COVID 19 Vaccination Programme Image

In Porter Valley we started our vaccination campaign on Thursday 7th January following our first delivery of the Pfizer vaccine. Even to get to this point has been a mammoth effort and there are so many people to thank for getting us set up and ready for the biggest vaccination campaign ever in the UK. A special mention must go to Carterknowle and Dore Surgery for allowing the use of their Dore site to act as the Vaccination Centre for our local population.

All of the local GP practices and their staff have worked tirelessly and selflessly in a co-ordinated team effort to get our PCN set up and ready to deliver the vaccinations.

So far we have received just over 2000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine and 1100 doses of the Oxford / Astra Zeneca vaccine. All of these vaccines have been delivered into the arms of our grateful patients often within hours of accepting delivery.

Despite the terrible weather conditions our elderly population have determinedly made their way to Dore. Not a single vaccine has been wasted.

We have already vaccinated over 90% over our > 80yr olds and will have completed vaccination of our 75-79yr olds by the end of January.

Our GP teams have visited 17 local care homes, vaccinating over 300 residents and 530 care home staff in the last 2 weeks.

We are expecting further supply of the Oxford / Astra Zeneca vaccine with which to visit and vaccinate our housebound population.

Thank you to all our practice staff who are working additional hours whether in surgery or at the Vaccination Hub to deliver this programme. Without their enthusiasm and goodwill none of this would be happening.

We must also thank all of our amazing volunteers who have come out in all weathers to help on the Vaccination site in all sorts of ways. We couldn’t do this without your help.

As a Primary Care Network we are determined to play our part in delivering us from this Pandemic. We will continue to work tirelessly to protect our patients with this vaccine.

Best wishes

Dr Humphrey Emery
